The Miramar Treatment Program was a life-changing experience for me. To be able to heal in such a beautiful environment, with such a terrific treatment team, was so amazingly positive. I have found my true self, again. I thank you and my family thanks you for helping me become the person I was meant to be.

General Information
Ativan is the brand name for Lorazepam and is in the benzodiazepine class of sedative-hypnotics, anxiolytics and anticonvulsants. Lorazepam is taken by injection, orally, and sublingually. The duration of the drug action is typically 6-12 hours from onset, which is several minutes to 1 hour, depending on the method of administration. Lorazepam is taken in tablet/capsule form, injectable solution, and as a parenteral patch.
Lorazepam is taken for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Panic Disorder), short-term insomnia, and other issues including alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Abuse
Illegal uses of Lorazepam may include the moderating of a 'bad trip' caused by LSD or some other hallucinogen, the boosting of the 'euphoric high' effects of opioids, or it may be simply take as a 'chill pill' to combat the stressors of life. Lorazepam does have strong amnesic properties, which may lead to abuse, as well.
Adverse Effects
Lorzepam may cause adverse physiological effects, particularly when combined with other drugs (opioids, alcohol, etc.) which may include CNS (Central Nervous System) depression, which can lead to respiratory depression or arrest, unconsciousness and coma.
Addiction
Prolonged use of Lorazepam eventually changes the brain in fundamental and lasting ways, which explains why addicts cannot simply quit without professional help. This is why treatment is essential. Drugs of abuse take over the brain's normal pleasure and motivational systems, advancing the drug use to the highest priority in the individual's motivational hierarchy, thus overriding all other motivations and drives. These brain changes are responsible for the compulsion to seek/use drugs, which is defined as addiction.
Ativan Detox and Abuse Rehabilitation
Like other benzodiazepines, Lorazepam can cause psychological and/or physical dependence. Withdrawal symptoms can be similar in character to those of alcohol and barbiturates, when cessation occurs, abruptly. Atavan detox (Lorazepam) is critical, prior to commencing rehabilitation. Although detoxification itself is not a treatment for addiction, it can help relieve withdrawal symptoms while the patient adjusts to being Lorazepam free. Fortunately, there are a number of effective options for treating Lorazepam addiction. Long-term Lorazepam use should not be abruptly discontinued except under the supervision of an experienced physician, who can manage the withdrawal symptoms and minimize the withdrawal period.
At Miramar Drug Rehabilitation for Women, physician assisted and monitored detoxification for Ativan is provided, as well as comprehensive Ativan rehabilitation services in Laguna Beach and Newport Beach in Southern California.
