General Information
Tramadol is an opioid, used for its analgesic properities. It is in managing moderate to severe pain. Tramadol is available in injectable form, as well as in oral preparations. Tramadol is approx. 10% as potent as morphine. Tramadol may be effective for alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety, however the use of Tramadol for treatment for such disorders is unlikely.
Adverse Effects
The most commonly reported adverse effects of Tramadol include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and sweating.
Addiction
While there is some controversy regarding the dependence liability of tramadol, it is apparent that dependence to this drug does occur. Prolonged use of Tramadol can eventually change the brain in fundamental and lasting ways, which explains why addicts cannot simply quit without professional help. This is why treatment is essential. Drugs of abuse take over the brain’s normal pleasure and motivational systems, advancing the drug use to the highest priority in the individual’s motivational hierarchy, thus overriding all other motivations and drives. These brain changes are responsible for the compulsion to seek/use drugs, which is defined as addiction.
Tramadol Detox and Abuse Rehabilitation
Tramadol detox is critical, prior to commencing Tramadol rehabilitation. Although Tramadol detox, itself, is not a treatment for addiction, it can help relieve withdrawal symptoms while the patient adjusts to being Tramadol free. Fortunately, there are a number of effective options for treating Tramadol addiction. Long-term Tramadol use should not be abruptly discontinued except under the supervision of an experienced physician, who can manage the withdrawal symptoms and minimize the withdrawal period.
At Miramar Womens Drug Treatment Centers, guests are provided physician assisted and monitored Tramadol detox, as well as comprehensive Tramadol rehabilitation services in Laguna Beach and Newport Beach in Southern California.
